The worst April Fools joke ever.

I've been a Manics fan for longer than I care to admit, I'm 33 now and the first time I saw them live was two days after my 17th birthday.
When I moved to London at age 19 I became involved in the MSP fan 'scene' and was co-editor of a Manics fanzine. My love for them has drifted in recent years, I mean, I'm much older, married etc.

However, tonight my friend that I haven't spoken to in perhaps 10 years called me hyperventilating and crying because someone had sent her this piece of information

When I saw what she was stressing about I went cold.

Yeah I remember Richey, I remember how he looked onstage, I remember smiling at him, I remember how little he was. I remember when he went missing and people being in a total fucking state about it. I remember people who knew him tying themselves up in knots, trying to figure out if there was anything they'd done wrong, if there was anywhere he could've gone that they didn't think of.
I can't think of a more horrible, disgusting and vile Aprils Fools Joke than this.

I'm pissed off not only because its a fake and its really fucking cruel but also because my friend had contacted a friend of Richeys asking him if he was ok and what was going on before she found out it was a fake and now she feels utterly humiliated.

If I ever find out who did this, I'll kick his/her ass.

Yeah, that was extremely tasteless. Clearly the URL gives it away as soon as you see it, but just to joke about it in this way is despicable.

April Fool's jokes are supposed to be about youtube changing its videos to text format and Apple releasing an iPhone to iPad converter--not something like this.

What the fucking fuck, that's absolutely disgusting. How could anyone think joking about it in this way would be funny?

The fact that they went to so much trouble! Plus it was so confusing because when I had the link open for the first time, I clicked on the homepage and it took you to the actual BBC News homepage so it took me a while to realise it was fake. I can't believe someone actually made an entire webpage with links to the real BBC site in it thinking it would be funny or whatever. Maybe they just hate Manics fans idk, but how can someone get a kick out of it? Just urgh....no.

I felt so angry finding out about it, can't really believe anybody would find this funny.. :(

I told a friend of mine who used to be a big fan, and she decided to send a complaint to the bbc about it. I think it's a pretty good idea, if only to support his family. Anybody who'd like to join in, have a link? http://news.bbc.co.uk/newswatch/ukfs/hi/newsid_3990000/newsid_3993900/3993909.stm

*hugs*

It must be doubly hard for someone who knew Richey. I was 10 when he disappeared, and I didn't become a fan until five years after that.

It rubbed me the wrong way too, tbh.
